Rafting
Camp
on
the
American
5 days - Ages 12 to 16
South Fork of the American River
Join
us for fun on the river! This camp is packed with great rafting on the
South Fork of the American River. We cover nearly 50 miles on California's most popular whitewater river
and home to some
of the best class III whitewater in the state. This is an
excellent introduction to rafting for those who are novice or first time
rafters- the scenery is excellent, the water refreshing and the rapids
are lively but not overpowering. In our very stable,
state-of-the-art self-bailing rafts captained by our experienced guides
we can enjoy the river to its fullest. Campers will enjoy paddling as a team as they navigate the
river, building confidence, camaraderie and excitement with each rapid
well run.
If you like, try your hand at guiding and learning to handle an inflatable kayak-
it's fun!
Calm stretches let us hop in for a swim, take on another raft of campers
in a friendly water fight or catch sight of wildlife to which the river
is home. Keep an eye out for a large turtle basking in the sun or
a river otter swimming near the shore.
Each evening we'll
enjoy a hearty and delicious dinner before gathering for the evening
campfire. We'll sing songs, share stories and reminisce about the
day's fun while roasting s'mores under a star-filled Sierra sky.
About Our Camp
Our
camp is based at the beautiful and lush Camp Lotus on the South Fork of the American River. The
camp has flush toilets, hot showers and a camp store. Campers stay in
single-gender 3 to 4 person tents.
Camp
Lotus consists of 40 acres of
river-front land. There is a slow-moving section of river fronting
the camp along with a large grassy beach area where campers can swim and
relax.
No rafting experience is necessary to participate in any of our
camps. All rafting and inflatable kayaking is conducted under
the guidance of our counselors- we maintain a ratio of at least 5
counselors to each camper.
